A Whale of a Tale
When murals and Terrazzo Floors come together.
On this project for Children’s Mercy Hospital, we wanted to get rid of the carpet and put in flooring that was both vibrant and lasting. The last flooring project on the floor below was Whales, and my design won a national award with Desco Flooring. Since the lower floor is visible over the railing, we continued the colors and design of this first-floor piece.
To create a feeling that the visitors and employees were walking in a painting, I started by designing the floor and waiting for installation. I then measured where the designs met the wall base and continued the work to the walls for the immersive experience. As visitors and employees walk the long hallways, they are transported into outer space and float with the flying whales.
