This project was especially meaningful to me for many reasons. During the pandemic, so many essential workers didn’t receive the recognition they deserved, and the Water Department was one of those unsung heroes. This mural, located in downtown Kansas City, tells a story of city pride, honors the important work of the Water Department, and connects the city’s water systems to iconic landmarks like our famous fountains and waterways.

The mural is situated at a busy four-way intersection, so I designed it to wrap around the building, ensuring it could be seen from as many angles as possible. As I worked on the project, there were bus stops on nearly every corner, and it was truly overwhelming how many people stopped to thank me for bringing color and pride to this often-overlooked spot. A huge thanks to Spray KC, the City of Kansas City, and the Water Department for trusting me with this important story.
